Personal value: Integrity
By definition:
Integrity is consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations and outcome. As a holistic concept, it judges the quality of a system in terms of its ability to achieve its own goals. A value system's abstraction depth and range of applicable interaction may also function as significant factors in identifying integrity due to their congruence or lack of congruence with empirical observation. A value system may evolve over time while retaining integrity if those who espouse the values account for and resolve inconsistencies.
Integrity may be seen as the quality of having a sense of honesty and truthfulness in regard to the motivations for one's actions. The term "hypocrisy" is used in contrast to "integrity" for asserting that one part of a value system demonstrably conflicts with another, and to demand that the parties holding apparently conflicting values account for the discrepancy or change their beliefs to improve internal consistency.
The above sentences define the meaning of integrity which I think is the most important aspect when a person is evaluated. It is the foundation of one’s loyalty, honesty, and trustworthiness when he or she related to another person. I used to think a friend’s loyalty, honesty, and trustworthiness is important and those values can be measured to differentiate between friend and non-friend (or even enemy). Until one day I found integrity which differentiate hypocrites from truthfulness as consistency without self-contradicting need also stands true for one to hold integrity.
Then I see clearer about those who have been friends with me for a long period of time. I think their integrity was verified by time and became self-explanatory. For those who at the end of the day can not be considered as friends, one thing in common is that their values always seem to conflict against one and the other which made me having trouble believe in their words eventually. How sad? I am not a person who would emphasis morality and ethics and never admires those as part of my value. For those who I found no integrity in them I would certainly treat without my integrity or even serve them with all my hypocrisy without regrets.
I really don’t like playing games with friends. Show me your integrity then we shall work within the acceptable boundary of each other. When integrity does not exist in a relationship, then I shall play game with no rules and boundaries until only one of us left to laugh at the end.
I truly admire a person with integrity………… It makes everything so simple and I like to be simple.
